PROFFESIONAL STATEMENT
My visual art practice explores the body as a site of experience, memory, and transformation. Working across mixed media on paper, canvas, video, installation, and body-based photography.
I develop figurative forms that register states of pressure, suspension, grounding, release, and protection.
The works operate as sequential structures in which identity and presence are continuously reorganized.

THE COLORS OF ME
Multimedia Installation, 2025
This installation combines portrait photography with symbolic materials and color. Inspired by my Indian and Tanzanian heritage and memories of the Indian Ocean, the work explores how identity is shaped through culture, memory, and personal history.
Medium:
Polaroid and digital photography with sea glass, shell, Maasai beadwork, and Indian jewelry

ME AND NORWAY
Multimedia Installation, 2025
Medium:
Slalom ski, ski boots, rehabilitation helmet, glitter
This installation reflects my experience of identity and belonging in Norway, where people are often categorized as Norwegian or not Norwegian. The phrase “Jeg er bare Marietha” (“I'm just Marietha”) written on the slalom ski expresses a desire to exist beyond these labels and simply be myself. The ski and helmet reference a traumatic accident during my first attempt at slalom skiing.
